Catch up
Spent the last week up at Lake Macquarie with the family.
Did manage to get out and run, ride and swim however.
Thursday- Swim 1000mtrs-19:37, another pleasing swim.
Friday-6am- Rode a lap of the lake 86km (29km/hr average) Great ride, was buggered towards the end due to my lack of bike miles but good to get a long ride in.
Saturday- Short run along the lake to Blackall Park-5.4km (5min pace)
Drove into the Watagans for a look see of the GNW100s course. Beautiful views out over the lake and up as far as Stockton Beach at Newcastle. Visited checkpoint 1 and the Watagan campground and Macleans Lookout, more fantastic views out over the national park.
Sunday-6am- Ran some of the first section of GNW100s course. Started at Heatons Gap(15.6km) climbing some 300 mtrs in 2km to Heatons Lookout with beautiful views out over the whole of Lake Macquairie . Typical GNW stuff, steep climbs with some rock hopping and stairs etc. Ran down into Heaton Forest Park crossing a creek, and back up another tough vertical. Lots of up and down eventually arriving at a dry creek bed with fallen trees and lots of rocks, again typical trailwalker style stuff, I even managed to lose the trail twice just before McCleans Lookout (great views out to the north and west) before turning around and returning to my car.I suspect it will be very tough with navigation at night if my little recon is anything to go by?The GNW signage is ok but at night time will be a different story.
All up I covered about 17km in 2hrs with lots of walking, definitely one tough course.
