Bush Marathon-42km

1am-Sunday morning

With Glasshouse coming up very quickly I wanted some night running in the legs so organised a run with Paul Every and Jan Herrmann. Time on the feet at night as well as dusting off the night gear was the idea. We met up at 1am in Pennant Hills Park to what was actually quite a mild morning. The trail is a looped course from Pennant Hills park down to Devlin's Creek, an estuary of Lane Cove River, skirting the suburbs of Cheltenham, North Epping and South Turramurra, return.
A good mixture of wide open firetrail with a good descent to the creek before a more gnarly climb back up to the park along a single file winding track. The temp dropped each time we hit the creek, and then rose again nearing the park. Of course there was also that night time anomoly of hot air pockets which were quite welcome every now and again. Nice and easy pace whilst I picked the brains of my more experienced GH mates for September's adventure. The loop was said to be about 8km but my Garmin (crappy signal strength) was giving it more like 7kms. With our cars parked at the end of each loop no worries with food and drinks.

After 4 and a bit loops Paul headed off to work (a further 25km!) whilst Jan and I decided to pull the pin at 6 loops, just over 4hrs and 42km. A marathon run through the night was a good point to stop we figured. I got home at 5:50am, showered and hopped back into a nice warm bed for a couple of hours sleep before the kids came in and did the usual jumping all over the bed ;-).

Total for week 123km and 432 for the month.

Back off week ahead....
