Local Long Run 20km

Had 20km on the program this morning, so opted to stay local and hit the streets of Marsden Park and Schofields. A good 20ker with a flat first 10 and then some rolling hills during the second 10km. Wanted sub 5 minute pace, so not bashing myself and ended up with 4:50/km. Had to work a little in parts and to be honest felt fairly junky, damn tapering business, hopefully it will kick in next week. Mentally I'm busting at the seams after a shorter week of only 65kms, just hope it all comes into place physically too. Less than 2 weeks time and we'll know more.
Bring it on.

Spud,

You are doing all th right things. Good to see that you are doing a good three week taper. I am always surprised when people only give themselves a week or two for a long race.

The three week taper starts to feel good in the second week I find. Are you going to have a crack at Striders 10k this week (you must be in good shape)or are you going to take it easy?

65kms for a week must seem very short for you. In fact it would seem short for a weekend.

Happy tapering :-)

What's a taper? Hope you're not part of this beer bet thing.

The mental part of the taper is the toughest... keeping the confidence with the lower kms. Stay cool - you'll have a great 6'.
